Germany Reports Decline in Gambling Addiction Following New Regulations

Germany has reported a decline in gambling addiction rates following the implementation of its updated State Treaty on Gambling in 2021. The treaty introduced measures such as deposit limits, a mandatory cooling-off period, and increased oversight of online operators.

A study conducted by the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) found that the number of problem gamblers dropped by 12% in 2023 compared to previous years. Experts attribute the decline to the treaty’s emphasis on harm reduction and responsible gambling practices.

However, the unregulated market still poses challenges, with many players turning to offshore platforms. The government is exploring additional measures to strengthen enforcement and protect consumers.
